On Tuesday, Kitchen ZINC celebrated the biking community in New Haven by officially launching the newly installed bike rack in their courtyard. Our friends in the like-minded biking community have been longtime supporters of Kitchen ZINC’s mission for good, local ingredients and sustainable pizza. This new bike rack will make it just as easy to enjoy our friendly atmosphere and savory pies on two wheels as it is on four.

Matthew Feiner, owner of The Devil’s Gear Bike Shop on 151 Orange Street joined us in collaboration for the event and ceremonial breaking of the bottle. In front a full bike rack, and an audience of all ages, we officially “christened” the Kitchen ZINC bike rack! There were many diverse bikers at the event including one of our good friends Sara and her family friendly bike! You can read all about her adventures here!

We hope that this bike rack will continue to allow us to forge a relationship with the city’s biking community. It is our intention to inspire other local businesses to make an effort to support and accommodate their biking customers too. Eat local, celebrate local!

We are taking full advantage of peach season this market menu! However, with this menu item we are looking to add a little sweet with a little savory with a delicious blue corn shortcake biscuits.

You can find local and sustainable peaches to include in this recipe at any local farmers markets near you. If you are in CT you can find a list of all the regular markets  here. You can generally find someone from ZINC poking around the Wooster Street Market, sponsored by our good friends at Cityseed.

Join us on Tuesday, August 30th as Kitchen Zinc officially christens our new bike rack! As the biking community in New Haven continues to blossom, we wanted to do our part to support our two wheeled customers. We have partnered with The Devil’s Gear Bike Shop to officially unveil the new bike rack and start putting it to use!

The ceremony starts at 5:30 p.m. and happy hour prices have been extended all night to those in attendance!

To keep up with all things related to New Haven and the cycling community check out this great blog! We love our biking customers and their commitment to sustainability and the community.

Market Menu Recipe

We just posted this weeks latest market menu recipe, Kirby Cucumbers + Cantaloupe Salad with Liuzzi’s Sopressata, Great Hill Blue Cheese and Basil Vinaigrette. This inventive summer salad uses ingredients from two of our favorite local vendors, Great Hill Blue in Massachusetts and Liuzzi Cheese in North Haven, CT. Enjoy!

If you want to make this weeks market menu at home, here is the recipe for our Green Chicken Chili, enjoy!

It’s peach season! Here is another sweet recipe from last weeks market menu, Honey and Creme Fraiche Panna Cotta and Peach Soup… so good. We also found this great site that lists  the CT farms where you can even pick your own peaches for the recipe!

Nothing quite says summer like a good piece of corn on the cob. However, we ran across this article in the NY Times with some equally tasty suggestions for taking the kernels off the cob. This recipe from our market menu uses fresh kernels straight from cob to make a delicious corn bread. If you make it, let us know how it turns out!

We get a lot of customers looking for vegetarian options. The thing about always using local ingredients from the farmers market, means there is never a shortage of veggie filled options, like this Vegetable Lasagna recipe from a recent market menu! Enjoy!

The summer is going by fast, but there is still plenty of time to stop in and try our always popular market menu or have a beer and pizza on the Kitchen ZINC patio!

Our three course market menu is always full of locally inspired dishes guaranteed to bring out the foodie in you. We wanted to help you bring our dishes into your home by providing the recipes here on our blog. We hope you enjoy this sweet one, Frozen Honey Mousse!

What’s a better way to kick off the summer season than with our annual Market Menu? Yesterday, June 15th, our first Market Menu of the season was featured. I hope you are as excited as I am. There is truly nothing better than fresh food from the market. Now that the market is officially open downtown every Wednesday, make sure you visit and pick up some of the best fresh produce around. Perhaps we will run into each other, since I will be busy picking up fresh ingredients for each weeks Market Menu. It is located on Church Street across from the Green. I was honored to be a part of this!

Just a reminder for those of you who love the outdoors – Kitchen ZINC’s patio is open! It’s been nice to see it filled on sunny days, watching guests enjoying their delicious pizza and new frozen cocktails. And for those of you who love to travel by bike, there is a bike rack conveniently located right outside our patio! Stay tuned for some upcoming surprises at Kitchen ZINC. You definitely won’t want to miss this!

Here are some upcoming events that I am participating in:

    • Saturday June 18th: IFAI Food Tour at ZINC

Look forward to seeing you all at the restaurant. Let me know what you think of the Market Menu!
