Who wants to win free pizza?

Okay everyone. We announced our brand new contest this week for Kitchen ZINC. We find that people love to come in and “make their own.” So that got us to thinking…what if the sky was the limit? What would people create? Then we started thinking that you might all want to share your masterpieces with us. And that’s when we decided to put our pizza where our mouths are and open up a “Make Your Own Pizza Contest.” And I have to say…I love the goat daydreaming of winning. We may need to do a follow up contest to actually name the goat!

There are two easy ways to enter:

You can go directly to the Kitchen ZINC website and click on the “enter contest” button on the bottom.
You can enter through our Facebook page—you don’t have to be a member to enter through Facebook [and become a fan while you're there!].

What do you need to submit an entry?

Name your perfect pizza
Recipe
Description of your pie and why we should choose your creation
photo of pizza [optional]

How does the contest work?

PHASE 1: ENTRIES ARE SUBMITTED
March 15-April 15, 2010

PHASE 2: THE PUBLIC VOTES TO DETERMINE THE 5 FINALISTS
April 12-21, 2010
-People can vote for one submission once per day.
-People can vote for submissions with “thumbs up/thumbs down”.
-Submissions are displayed according to most popular and most recent.

PHASE 3: FINALISTS AS SPECIALS FOR IN-STORE VOTING
April 22 – May 1, 2010
We will take the top 5 finalists as determined by the online community, that meets the criteria, and run them as actual specials. People will have the ability to vote for the winners ONLY in-store.

PHASE 4: THE WINNERS ARE ANNOUNCED
May 6, 2010
There will be 5 winners—1 grand prize, 1 runner up and 3 honorable mentions.

The goat has arrived…

For those of you who have not seen our mascot for Kitchen ZINC yet, it’s a goat!

Not a real one [yet]. But we fell in love with our goat picture and decided to use him on everything. We like to imagine what he is thinking, so you’ll see that he actually shares his thoughts on our To Go menu and ads. And if you are walking down Chapel Street or through Temple Plaza, make sure you peek down the alley to Kitchen ZINC. You’ll see our brand new flags that are being installed today!

In fact, we are going to start a “Name the goat” drive soon! What do you think? Do you want to weigh in on what the goat’s name should be?

Free wine tastings at Kitchen Zinc

So we had a couple of free wine tastings last month at Kitchen Zinc. They’ve been so successful that we’ve decided to continue the wine tastings every other Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30. The next one will be this Thursday, September 10th at Kitchen Zinc. On September 24th, we’ll be closed for a private event. Then we’ll have wine tastings on October 1st and October 15th.

It’s time…Kitchen ZINC is open!

Okay, we’re ready [almost]. So it is time for our soft opening. We are opening tonight at 4pm and are actually asking for all of our loyal friends and families help.

We want to take the next week [June 12-19] to work out all of the kinks. That’s where all of you come in. Literally…come in. We want to use you as our testers. Tell us what you think, what you like, what we can work on, what we shouldn’t change. As our thanks, we’ll take 20% off your check. And come in as many times as you want.

By the way, this is our unofficial mascot. You’ll see when you come in.

Kitchen ZINC

Okay. We’re ready to announce more information about the new restaurant. The new concept is Kitchen ZINC: Artisan Pizza + Bar.

We are working on the menu now, have been redesigning the interior with the help of New Haven architects, Karin Patriquin and the Collaborative Studio, and we’ve installed a brick pizza oven!

As always, we are going to focus on local, sustainable ingredients–we thoroughly believe in “Farm to Table.” We are selecting amazing cheeses, handmade sausage, local veggies and more. We are also going to be putting a big emphasis on To Go orders too. This way people can count on good tasting [and good for you] To Go food, instead of fast food.

What we’re thinking

So we were reading an article from the Wall Street Journal, and it hit the nail on the head.

When we decided to rethink CHOW, we wanted to create a concept that was familiar and comfortable for everyone, while remaining true to our Farm to Table philosophy. The idea of filling the need [and stomachs] with good for you–and good to eat– pizza that is fast, budget-conscious and sustainable seemed like the perfect fit.
